When I was younger, I would watch all kinds of sci-fi TV shows about superheroes and aliens and whatnot. In these shows, characters would spout out words like “Isotope Beams” and “Superconductors” and “Cyclotrons.” I thought they were just made-up terms. I didn’t think there was any science behind them.
