With St. Patrick's Day a few days away, there's one thing on a lot of people's minds: green beer.
Green beer sells like hotcakes on St. Patrick's Day, but what happens to after-holiday leftovers?
When P.T. O'Malley's, 210 Abbot Road, had leftover green beer last year, assistant general manager Andy Goaley said they put it on special.
"We drop the price - a lot - and it sells for a few weeks," he said.
They ordered more than 20 kegs of green beer last year, and after St. Patrick's Day they still had about two full kegs.
This year, they ordered eight kegs for Saturday. Goaley said if it sells well, they'll be ordering more for Monday.
Jim Driscoll, owner of Paul Revere's Bar, 2703 E. Grand River Ave., also plans to start serving the green stuff on Saturday.
"Everybody loves green beer," he said.
Instead of ordering kegs, Paul Revere's Bar sprays green coloring in the beer mug and then pours the beer on top.
Driscoll said it's efficient because there are never any leftovers.
"We just make it as we go along," Driscoll said. "It's really dark - it's MSU green."
Jessie Stipcak, owner of Reno's East Side Sportsbar & Grill, 1310 Abbot Road, said they try to order enough kegs of green beer so it sells out.
"If we run out, we put food coloring in for the rest of the night," she said.
General manager Lauren Kenzyck said they've ordered more than 20 kegs of Bud Light and Miller Lite beer. They also plan to have prizes and giveaways to spice up the night.
