Providing a diverse range of music in the rap, rock and country capacities, the 2008 Common Ground Music Festival is set to begin in Lansing today, marking the genesis of the weeklong musical event. Concerts during this year's ninth installment of the event will run until Sunday and take place at Louis F. Adado Riverfront Park, 300 N. Grand Ave. in downtown Lansing every night from 5:30 to 11:30 p.m.

The celebration will feature more than 30 bands, with featured musicians performing on separate stages. Headliners include former Van Halen band member Sammy Hagar, rapper Snoop Dogg, country artist Lyle Lovett, '70s funk band WAR and alternative rock band Staind. Additional live entertainment will be provided by bars on the east and west areas of the park during the times of the main concerts.

Individual single day general admission tickets are $32 for every show, excluding Friday's concert, which costs $39. Patrons may also purchase the Common Card, a general admission seven-day pass, for $95. Admission is waived for children 10 years old and younger, provided they are accompanied by an adult. Common Ground tickets also include free parking at select city of Lansing parking ramps and lots.
