Jason Reeves is yet another artist brought to the general population courtesy of MySpace.com.

Reeves’ fourth album, the first to be distributed by a major label (Warner Bros.) has one of those long, pretty names which usually come from singers who write their own songs: “The Magnificent Adventures of Heartache (and Other Frightening Tales).”

Despite the title, the album is a pleasant mix of sad and happy love songs that are all rather upbeat.

Reeves has a voice and a style like John Mayer, but he’s deeper than Mayer and not quite as talented on guitar. His voice is beautiful and keeps you listening even when the pop sound gets a little repetitive. He writes the songs himself, and the lyrics are eloquently simple and relatable.

Listening to the soft but upbeat “Someone, Somewhere” has the power to make you feel like you really aren’t alone in the world. It might be cheesy, but the song can cheer up anyone who’s lonely or put a knowing smile on the face of anyone in love.

“Photographs and Memories,” a song that originally appeared on the album “Hearts are Magnets,” is a song about heartbreak the title speaks of. With this song, perhaps because he wrote it earlier in his career, the pop sound of the whole album is less noticeable, and the song is almost hauntingly calming and beautiful.

This is the album that will turn Reeves into the overplayed-on-the-radio, sensitive singer-songwriter every girl is fawning after.
