Potbelly Sandwich Works makes surprisingly healthy sandwich

Odds are if you’ve ever made your way down Grand River Avenue you’ve noticed, if not eaten at, Potbelly Sandwich Works, 233 E. Grand River Ave. While it’s no secret this gem of a sandwich chain exists and makes fresh subs fast, not everyone is aware of just how healthy the menu is.

Compared to Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches, Potbelly’s is like eating dry-steamed broccoli — but it tastes a lot better. A turkey sandwich at Potbelly’s is a mere four grams of fat and 344 calories, compared to the 26 grams of fat and 555 calories in a Turkey Tom from Jimmy John’s.

Not only is Potbelly’s healthier than its competitor, it’s a healthy option in general, and filling, too.

Not satisfied with four grams of fat? Make it a Wheat-Skinny, which is Potbelly-slang for cut off excess bread, leaving consumers with less carbs and the same great taste.

Check out their Web site for more nutritional information and locations.

That’s completely wrong. The nutritional guide at the Potbelly website gives you data based only on the meat and bread – it says so. Yet it also says the sandwich includes cheese, so click that button. Then if you add all the other toppings, it’s just the same as a Jimmy John’s Turkey Sandwich. If you just go into Jimmy John’s and get a turkey sandwich without mayo, it cuts the fat below a Potbelly Sandwich.

There’s no way a Potbelly’s skinny turkey on wheat is more fattening than a #4 at Jimmy Johns. Sure if you start adding or subtracting ingredients the sandwiches would even out, but that’s true for any food. If you take the sandwich as is, the Potbelly turkey sandwich is healthier than the one at Jimmy Johns.

Before you try to prove this blog wrong do your research. It says right on the website the calorie content of potbelly. Everyone knows the more you add the more calories you add to it. Maybe your just too fat to realize how many calories you are adding to the sandwich.

um, i DID do my research. if YOU read the website, it says (like i already pointed out) that the nutritional data on the Potbelly website ONLY INCLUDES BREAD AND MEAT. Which is not what the ACTUAL sandwich includes, it automatically comes with cheese. If you go to the Jimmy John’s website, remove everything but the bread and meat, it’s VIRTUALLY THE SAME. Basic understanding of nutrition would tell you the same thing.
