Reality TV entertains during summer months

It’s sad when reality TV is more real than my life.

But what’s even sadder is that I’m not alone in this.

Seriously, from “Dancing with the Stars” to “American Idol” or “Extreme Home Makeover” (Ty Pennington’s hair isn’t even enough to keep viewers from bawling their eyes out), these shows have got it going on.

Drama, action and adventure — that’s expected. But add in singing, dancing, wardrobe and handymen? It’s almost too much to handle.

After school ended for the summer, I moved into an apartment with my grandma. Now don’t get me wrong, she’s pretty swingin’ for 72. But needless to say, my social life has rather flatlined.

I thank my lucky stars, therefore, that there’s still reality TV.

Through reality TV, I’m able to laugh at the mean girl, check out the cute boys in dancing pants and see mankind be bettered through new room decor.

Who needs to go out when you can watch kids from “The Hills” party, or get dressed up when the girls from “America’s Next Top Model” always look better even with no makeup on?

As most of these shows are heading toward the end of their seasons, an idol will be picked and Lauren Conrad will probably still not be happy with her love life. Contestants on all these shows will be sent home, with stories to tell and aspects of their old, not-broadcast-in-high-definition lives.

And I know I’m not alone in saying I’ll have some life to catch up on myself.

Good thing we’ve all got a few weeks yet.
