It's a blog about nothing
So, the anticipated commercial Jerry Seinfeld did for Microsoft has been released and is now on the airwaves.
If you’ve missed it thus far, YouTube has your back, allowing you to watch it here. Go watch it before continuing.
Seen it? Good.
Now what was that? It’d be easy to mistake it for a shoe ad. Considering that many thought the spot was supposed to promote Microsoft Vista and act as a counterpunch to Apple’s popular Mac vs. PC ads, I’m not quite sure it did its job.
Really, if you missed the last few seconds would you have had any idea that it was a Microsoft commercial?
Microsoft claims that the commercial was supposed to fit into the same zone that Seinfeld did — that it was a commercial about nothing.
That’s great, but what they may have forgotten is that unlike TV shows, commercials are supposed to have a purpose beyond entertaining. They’re supposed to sell people a product. I question whether the ad guys behind it were at Advertising 101.
Then again, I am talking about it right now. It certainly is on people’s radar. Maybe they really do know what they’re doing after all.

The ad industry is changing and so are commercials. This could very well be the future of ads. I’m excited to see what’s next.

I think that the commercial was kinda of dumb. Yes, Seinfeld was about nothing, but at least it made semi sense. I am a giant fan of the show, but this was just a lackluster attempt to get back at mac. This commercial has literally NOTHING to do with computers. I don’t get it, and I probably never will.
