Beyonce's new name a little too 'fierce'

In the grand tradition of artists mistaking getting too big for their britches with getting too big for their “real” name, an impressive case of delusion has struck again in the realm of fame.

Of course, who else would I be talking about but the public’s very own SASHA FIERCE?
And yes, I do think it needs to be capitalized.

I’m going to try not to rant as this is in no way 1) about her actual music or 2) important, but I just couldn’t hold it in any longer.

I also understand I am a little late on the topic, but it has honestly taken me this long to process that she seriously wants to be called SASHA FIERCE.

SASHA FIERCE herself has been quoted as saying something to the effect of the name change and word FIERCE being more representative of how she wants to be viewed as an individual in the spotlight. She has also gone on the record saying it’s really just the name she feels fits the person she becomes onstage more accurately than the name Beyoncé.
Because clearly the name Beyoncé is so drab.

On a practical note, perhaps it only bothers me because you have to always last-name her. Am I going to ask someone if they heard the new Sasha song? No. Should I ever have the urge to ask, it will always be me yelling the name too loudly and asking if someone has heard the new one from SASHA FIERCE. Eek.

Now don’t get me wrong. I’m not badmouthing SASHA FIERCE as an artist. There is definitely a distinct and important spot for her in pop music culture right now and ““Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)”:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mVEGfH4s5g” is sort of great and music of this fashion has an extremely special place in my heart.

I get that celebrities are huge fans of the infamous name change. Prince did it twice. Garth Brooks kind of did it, I guess. Madonna wants to be called Esther. Miley Cyrus is legally Miley Ray Cyrus instead of Destiny Hope Cyrus (Okay, maybe some of them are good calls). But come on. Isn’t one of the biggest celebrities in current pop music completely changing her name a bit much?

I suppose whatever keeps you sane and makes you happy should be just fine with everyone else. But I’ve said it before and I will say it again: If at any point in my life, I feel the word FIERCE describes me more as an individual, I want someone to hit me. Hard.

Maybe I’m just not FIERCE enough to understand … I think that’s fine with me.
