Moore could negatively affect Adams' music

I’m going to veer off a strictly music topic to address my biggest music-related concern in the last week.

Ryan Adams, my beloved Ryan Adams, is engaged to Mandy Moore, and I am horrified.
Upon hearing the news I had a very strong reaction in my head that was totally irrational and unnecessary and extremely reminiscent of Bill O’Reilly’s greatest moment. Once I calmed down, I had a brief moment of talking myself off the ledge.

In all honesty, I never really had a problem with Moore as a human being. I was more or less indifferent. Do I like her music? No, but I’m trying very hard to understand where Adams is coming from. As I type this, I’m listening to her on YouTube.com to try and create a connection. I’ve even gone as far as listening to her cover of Rihanna’s “Umbrella,” taking baby steps instead of diving right into full-blown MANDY right away. I’m going for nothing but good associations.

I like Rihanna. I love Ryan Adams. But I must say, I really hate Mandy Moore singing Rihanna. It’s actually pissing me off with every single slowed-down word.

It makes me yearn for the old-school “Candy” Moore who over enthusiastically lip-synched everything. It was so sugary and sweet. It wasn’t trying to be anything it wasn’t meant to be, it was just straight bubble gum pop, which as I’ve said before, has it’s own place in the world.

Now, I’m not one of those delusional stalker fans who is mad that Adams is attached and “off the market” because I secretly want to have his babies or something. I’m more concerned that she will somehow affect his music.

While I’m sure this concern is completely ridiculous (or is it?) I’m still worried that something could shift. After all, Adams is not known for being the most dependable of musicians. Everybody messes up every now and then, but I don’t think he needs any help, God love him.

Basically, I just worry for the well-being of Adams upcoming music ventures. I want to believe this won’t change anything, but at the first sign of an interlude that ends with “Love always, Mandy,” I’m going to be forced to wear head-to-toe black for a minimum of a week in mourning of the Ryan Adams I once loved.

But who knows? I hope Mandy proves me wrong and, by this time next year, inspired by his newest muse, Adams has come out with the best music of his career. I really do. I’m willing to eat my words if he can put out something to match some of my past favorites.
And if all else fails, no one loves misery like Adams, so if they’re ever on the rocks (and we all know they will be) that will only add some fuel to his fire.

Perhaps you missed Ryan’s annoucement that he is taking a break from music and his band. Their last show being the Atlanta show in March. Ryan is going to focus on writing (books not songs) and try to get healthy as he has had some recent hearing/balance issues. So your (and my) beloved Ryan won’t be making music regardless of whom he is spending time with these days.
