Comic event opens writer's eyes to world of comic books

On Oct. 18-19 I covered 24 Hour Comics Day at Clem’s Collectibles, 212 S. Washington Square, in Lansing.

Admittedly, before this I was not a big comic book fan, nor will I begin reading these books on a regular basis, but the event did manage to broaden my views of what the comics world has to offer.

One of the artists who participated in the event will be making two appearances in the area this coming week. Eric Wilmoth, who like the other artists did not resemble the typical comic book guy stereotype, will be signing books at Clem’s from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 5 at 21st Century Comics & Games, 515 E. Grand River Ave.

Wilmoth’s unique autobiographical comics demonstrate that comic books can be about so much more than superheroes. The artistic takes the artists portrayed at 24 Hour Comics Day were amazing and put a whole new perspective on comics, at least for me.

If nothing better is happening in your life Wednesday or next week, check out Lansing Community College alumnus and just overall cool guy Wilmoth and support his artistic genius.
