Gymnast tour stop at MSU shouldn't be missed

When you grow up playing a sport or idolizing an athlete you follow, you tend to look up to professionals in that particular sport. At least, I know that can be said about me.

If the 1996 USA Olympic women’s gymnastics team, or any of the Olympic gymnasts, had traveled to a city near me, I would have been ecstatic. I grew up being a gymnast and following the Olympics. When I was six years old I didn’t think it could get any better than the 1996 USA Olympic women’s gymnastics team made up of Kerri Strug, Amanda Borden, Amy Chow, Shannon Miller, Dominique Dawes, Jaycie Phelps and Dominique Moceanu.

Even though I’m older now and have different role models, I’m still fairly pumped that the 2008 Tour of Gymnastics Superstars will be at Breslin Center at 7:30 p.m. Friday. I have a lot of respect for those who dedicate their time and energy into being an athlete.

Gymnasts may no longer be my role models, but they might be the role models for other children. Being involved in a sport, having professional athletes on tour and in a city near you is a dream come to for some children. But like I said before, maybe that can only be said about me.
