Put the remote down — that rerun won't make you any happier

People are happier when they read and socialize than when they sit around watching TV, according to a new study from the University of Maryland.

In the study of 30,000 adults, people who described themselves as unhappy watched 20 percent more TV than those who said they are happy.

It makes sense. Being a couch potato can’t be as rewarding as, say, taking a jog around the block.

On the other hand, the statistic is a bit surprising — watching TV tends to put the viewers in a safety bubble.

Unless you’re watching the news, you don’t have to deal with the tragedies of the real world outside your window, but you can instead sit and laugh at how many times Todd turns something Carla says into a sexual innuendo on “Scrubs”.
